Acknowledgements
We’d like to thank all our friends, seen and unseen, for helping us realize this collection of dance music. Some of the composers are long gone, but not forgotten: the legendary Andrini Brothers, Peter Tarzia, Rudy Cipolla, Michele Corino, Matteo Casserino —they have all created beautiful music which continues to live on in the Bay Area, and far beyond. Some of this music originated in Italy and Sicily, Portugal, Spain, Brazil and Mexico; some of it was created right in North Beach. We are proud to continue this tradition. Many thanks to Tony Flores, now living in Sonoma, for sharing so much of this music with us; the Caffe Trieste in San Francisco, for keeping the tradition alive and well, and, of course, the late Matteo Casserino for inspiring us for so many years at the Caffe, along with his brilliant guitarist, Gino De Michelle; the Baguette Quartet, in Berkeley, by way of Paris, and its beautiful French musette music; the Ellis Island Old World Folk Ensemble, also in Berkeley, and its late founder, Bob Black; Sheri Mignano for her research and tireless devotion to traditional Italian music; the Santa Rosa Public Library, where we have found old forgotten LPs and 78s, containing treasures of Italian music; and, finally, to our families and friends who have supported us in this entire endeavor, mille grazie.
